Why does Zinzino use plastic bottles instead of glass?

BalanceOil plastic bottles use certified virgin raw materials (not recycled materials) and are certified to be of food grade quality. The factory making these bottles must be, and is, certified for making food quality bottles. No contamination happens in the production and bottles can be used at once! The same applies to the cap. Today, plastic is more commonly used for food packaging and food supplement containers.
Also, for an extended time (like 5 years!) Certified Glass or Certified Plastic have the same quality preservation properties, i. e. nothing happens to the bottle over time and there is no leaching of chemicals or heavy metals into the product. It does not matter if itʼs water, oil, wine, beer, etc. This is, of course, checked by the authorities. There are standard testing methods that must be used and standard limits for heavy metals and toxins that are applied when checking. So, same rules everywhere.
The fact is that glass bottles must be of certified food grade quality to ensure no heavy metals leach from the bottle into the oil. In fact, glass is a very critical packaging material and you cannot use just any glass bottle! Proper glass quality is critical and difficult to get! So most authorities also demand an independent test done by SGS or GS or TUV to issue the certificate. When using glass bottles for food, certificates and test results must be presented to Food and Health Authorities. Zinzino must also do this, and we do, e.g. with glass bottles used for Coffee Syrup. Why are our syrup bottles made of glass? Simple – the small factory does not have a packaging machine for plastic bottles.
So why does Lysi/Zinzino use plastic? Quality aspects are the same, price is cheaper and from an environmental point of view, plastic is better. Glass production contaminates the soil where it is produced. Glass production consumes more energy Glass is not recycled as much as plastic Plastic is either recycled and used for other products or burned with waste, and then this kind of plastic becomes CO2 + water Plastic bottles are light and their transportation does not consume as much fuel.
Lysi is a GMP-certified producer because they make medicinal quality Omega-3 for pharmaceutical companies. GMP puts more emphasis on quality control and certificates than any other quality system! That means Lysi must check and double check quality certs and test certs from ALL suppliers including those providing the BOTTLES. The food grade quality of bottles must be perfect or Lysi could lose their GMP certification.
